Personality:

Okay, look, the city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense.

At his core, Clint Barton is a man of conundrums. On one hand, he's dedicated and driven, and completely serious when in combat. But on the other, he's a joker and the first to make a quip or sarcastic comment even in the tensest of situations. He's exceptional when he's working on his own, but he blends in seamlessly when working as part of a team.

I'm going back out there because it's my job.

Nobody would know. Nobody. Yeah, the last I saw him, Ultron was sitting on him. Yeah, he’ll be missed, quick little bastard. I miss him already.

There are times when he follows orders exactly as they're given, and then there are times when he breaks with protocol and does his own thing when it seems like the right thing to do. He's serious and focused, but the second there's someone challenging him or someone he feels like he has a rivalry with, he becomes very competitive and determined to hold his own with them. He might be older than some of the others on the team, but he's not above resorting to trying to one-up others who provoke him. Even in the case of Pietro Maximoff who goaded him to get a reaction, he didn't hesitate to try and get the upper hand. Spoilers: he didn't.

You survived... Half the planet didn't. They got Thanos. You get me.

He's kind and caring, but if someone's done him or those he cares about wrong, it doesn't take him long at all to slip into someone seeking nothing but revenge for those who hurt his loved ones or betrayed him somehow. When he lost his whole family, his response was to go rogue and get revenge on those he considered unworthy to have lived, such as drug lords in Mexico and the yakuza in Japan. Of course, he knew that doing so would send him down an extremely dark road that would be difficult, if not impossible, to come back from, but he had nothing left to lose and nothing more to hope for at that point.

As much as I hate to admit it, if we're gonna win this one, some of us might have to lose it.

Clint is very much a realist and someone who tries to focus on the big picture, not given to doing things like just "hoping" everything will work out. He knows that the good guys don't always win, and sometimes in war, sacrifices have to be made. He's not selfish by any means, not hesitating to give himself up if it meant others could be free. And more importantly, within the context of the clash of the Avengers, Clint (and others) knew that in the grand scheme of things, the fight they were having at the airport wasn't the big one, and they hadn't reached endgame yet. That was still coming, and Steve needed to be there for it, not under arrest with the rest of them. So, even though Clint had a family back at home waiting for him, he kept his eyes on the big picture and along with Sam, Wanda, and Scott, made the sacrifice play for the greater good.

Weaknesses/Temptations:

Despite having SHIELD training which requires keeping a cool head in tense situations, sometimes Clint is too driven by his emotions, leading him to act rashly or without thinking. For example, the Avengers were on a mission to take out a threat, and overall, it was going well, but at one point, Clint let himself be distracted someone from the opposing side taunting him, and while it didn't jeopardize the mission, he did end up badly injured because he lost focus. It's worth noting that he does have a prideful side, and he doesn't like being one-upped, even when it's in jest.

Similarly, he might appear calm and cool on the surface, but the second someone hurts his family or other loved ones, it's like a switch flips and he becomes very vengeful, almost murderous. Granted, the loss of his entire family is nothing to sniff at, but his reaction to that loss was to become a vigilante and take the law into his own hands, bringing what he saw as justice to those he thought shouldn't have survived (the yakuza in Japan and drug lords in Mexico, as an example).

He's kind of a jump first, look later type, but mainly as it relates to himself. In fights, he's been shown jumping off buildings backwards without looking, seemingly unconcerned about the potential danger, and that has repercussions for his civilian family life, however hard he tries to keep the two somewhat separate.

His moral compass is fairly solid, but unfortunately, it could easily be dislodged with a little nudging, mostly of the supernatural variety. Clint is, without a doubt, one of the good guys, but he's an ordinary human and therefore not too resilient when it comes to mind control or telepathy. With a few choice words and a little help from the supernatural, Clint could easily be swayed from the good path and towards the dark side, and the things that make him a good Avenger could be used to further less altruistic goals.

Powers/Abilities:

Clint has no supernatural abilities, but he has several areas of proficiency because of years of training and experience.

Marksmanship/archery:

Clint is best known for his top-of-the-line archery skills. Jokingly called "Legolas" and "Katniss" by Tony, he's deadly with a bow, because as a result of long hours of training and practice, his accuracy and precision have both been honed to the point that he rarely misses. His arrows usually can't be blocked, however that only holds true when he's facing opponents who aren't also at the top of their game.

Of course, having keen eyesight only helps him out when sighting targets, and as for his excellent hand-eye coordination, that just comes from practice and refining it.

As an expert archer, Clint has been known to be able to read things like trajectory and factor in wind conditions when determining when and where an opponent is going to be. Several times during major battles, he's been seen not even looking at where the target currently is but pointing his arrows in the direction that they will end up going. It's all about reading the terrain, so to speak, and Clint's accuracy level is so high that he can achieve these feats without much difficulty.

Assassin:

Before taking up with the Avengers, Clint was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and more importantly, he was a top-ranking one due to his ability to neutralize threats swiftly, soundly, and without hesitation.

To be an assassin, a person has to be laser-focused, and that's Clint to a T. When he's on a mission, his sole focus is the objective and getting the job done, whether it's taking out rival assassins, aliens from another planet, robotic soldiers, or operatives from other less-than-friendly organizations.

As an assassin, he has to be hard, bordering almost on the cold-blooded killer aspect of things, but that's necessary to get the job done. A person can't kill effectively unless they are completely focused and not distracted by external factors. Clint's very good at managing his thoughts and feelings so that when he's on assignment, the only thing he's thinking of is who his next target is. That ability to focus helps him out in other areas as well.

Hand-to-hand:

Aside from being a master archer, Clint's hand-to-hand combat abilities are nothing to sniff at. As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, familiarity with the various martial arts disciplines is just as important as weapons mastery. It stands to reason that when training as an agent, Clint became exposed to a wide variety of martial arts styles, and began incorporating them into his own fighting.

This makes him useful, because if he's ever disarmed or lands somewhere without a weapon, he can still be formidable with just his fists. That decisiveness and laser focus I mentioned early helps him out immensely in this area, because with nothing to really distract him, he can incapacitate an enemy swiftly and easily. But again, the only exception there is if the person he's fighting is an equal skill match with him, and then in that case, the fight can go either way.

Still, his track record of taking down opponents with just hand-to-hand fighting
is fairly impresssive, having squared off with Natasha Romanoff, T'Challa (Black Panther), Chitauri, and Ultron robots at one time or another.

Weapon flexibility:

Clint's weapon of choice is the bow, of course, but he's comfortable enough with weapons to be able to hold his own even when using others. By his own admission, he's not as comfortable with a firearm as he is with a bow, but regardless, he can shoot bullets with the same deadly accuracy that he uses to fire arrows. Other weapons that he's used with equal skill include a custom made dagger, a collapsible metal baton, and most notably, a set of shuriken and a katana.

The fact that he's skilled in the use of all these weapons suggests that he's flexible and good at adapting to using different weaponry. Also, he seems to be quite the determined and dedicated individual, to have put in the time to learning the ins and outs of these different weapons. All in all, this just makes him more useful in fight situations, because he's not limited to the use of just one weapon.

Items:

- One collapsible recurve bow
- One arrow quiver, which can hold up to 32 arrows
- One custom-made dagger
- A wallet-size picture of his family
- One collapsible metal baton
- One Heckler & Koch P30
